There is a problem with Windows 98, Windows Installer v2 and NAI VirusScan 4.5.x.  What sometimes happens is that the antivirus fails to load at boot time as Windows 98 service.  The error appears before the logon screen and leaves your computer vunerable to virus attack.

Remove the splash screen from NAI VirusScan Enterprise 7.x

If your computer is suffering from a slow boot up you can try disabling the splash screen that is displayed during the start up process of your AntiVirus package.  This sometimes as a dramatic effect on the time until your computer is ready to use.
