If your computer is suffering from a slow boot up you can try disabling the splash screen that is displayed during the start up process of your AntiVirus package.  This sometimes as a dramatic effect on the time until your computer is ready to use.

This procedure works for Mcaffee VirusScan Enterprise 7.x

Using REGEDIT navigate to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Network Associates\TVD\VirusScan Enterprise\CurrentVersion

locate the key bSkipSplash and change the value from 0 to 1

• 1 to Disable the splash screen
• 0 to Enable the splash screen.
