Switching off Share/Personal Documents
Written by Terry Watts

One of the things that really bugs me about Windows XP is that on a Standalone or P2P networked machine, any user account that you create on XP, automatically gets that users documents made available to every other user.  This can be quite undesirable especially if the users personal documents might be stored there.

On a home machine or perhaps a machine that is used in the classroom, this feature could be quite handy.  But if you don't need or want these folders displaying under My Computer, then there is no tick box option to switch this off.

So you will have to delve deep into the Windows Registry to remove this Microsoft Handy feature.

Open REGEDIT.exe and navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\NameSpace\DelegateFolders

Look for the Sub-key {59031a47-3f72-44a7-89c5-5595fe6b30ee}

Highlight it and Delete it.

As soon as you delete this Registry Key, the feature will be permanently switched off.  There is no need to reboot the workstation, just close REGEDIT.

To re-enable this feature, browse to the same Key path as above, and create a new Sub-Key (not a value) and give it the same name as above - including the curly braces.
