(Updated) Internet Explorer Proxy Tool
Written by Terry Watts

Do you have teachers complaining that they can't access the Internet on there laptops when they are at home?  The chances are they are trying to use there own broadband connection and the Internet Explorer Proxy setting has been enabled for the schools filtered internet service.

This is a problem that I have encountered quite a lot of the time.  There are several solutions that can be used.  The first is to download an alternative browser application like FireFox.  This would allow a physical association between home and school.

The alternative is to train the teachers to switch the Proxy on and off as they need.  However this isn't always possible because of a network policy or perhaps the users simply can't get the hang of changing the settings.

So to help out a little bit, here is a new application that will work on all Windows XP machines and allow laptop owners to switch on or off the Internet Explorer proxy settings.

The tool has been written as a HyperText Application or HTA, so can be modified to suit the needs of the school.  There are no additional programs needed to customise the application, simply use Notepad.

Running the application is as simple as Double clicking on the file.  Windows will know exactly what to do with the file and display a pretty green screen with the Schooltechnician.co.uk logo.

To make it easy to install on users computers, the Proxy control program is now available to download as an MSI installer.  The installer will create a Desktop Shortcut as well as a Shortcut on the Start Menu.  Download it today from the Files section of the site.
